How it works

Choose how Tipd works for your tours

Every tour operation works differently. Tipd lets you create Teams around the way you work, choose how guests tip your guides, and use QR codes or links wherever they fit your guest journey.

The building block

Start with a Team

A Team sits behind the QR code or Tipd link your guests use. Add the relevant guides and choose how tips should work, then use that Team wherever it fits your tours.

1

Create a Team

Set up the Team for a tour, route, crew or part of your operation.

2

Add your guides

Invite the people who should be available to receive tips through that Team.

3

Choose how tips work

Decide whether a tip is shared, the guest chooses a guide, or guests go directly to one person.

4

Share the QR code or link

Use it in your guest app, emails, printed material or wherever it fits the tour.

5

Tipd handles the payment

Tipd allocates the tip according to the Team setup and pays the appropriate guides directly.

Flexible across your operation

Build Teams around your operation

Create separate Teams for different tours, routes or crews and run them at the same time. Add or remove guides as your operation changes.

Tipping options

Choose how guests tip your guides

Each Team can work differently. You decide whether guests tip the whole team, choose a guide from a list, or go directly to one person.

01

Share one tip across the team

Best for tours where guides normally share gratuities.

The guest leaves one tip to the Team. Tipd automatically divides it between the guides included in that Team and pays each person directly.

Staff changing between tours or shifts? Keep the same Team QR code or link. Team members check in and out through the Tipd app, so tips are shared between the people checked in.

Why operators choose this

When guides normally share gratuities, Tipd removes the need for your business to collect one tip and work out who is owed what. The split happens automatically and each guide is paid directly.

02

Let the guest choose who to tip

Best when you want a reusable Team QR code or link that stays the same as guides change.

The guest opens the Team, sees the guides available and chooses who they want to tip. The payment goes to that guide rather than being shared across the Team.

Why operators choose this

Use the same Team QR code or link on vehicles, printed material, guest information and digital channels while changing which guides are available inside that Team. You do not need to reprint or replace it every time guides change.

03

Send guests directly to one guide

Best when the guest relationship is clearly with one person.

A guide-specific QR code or Tipd link takes the guest straight to that guide’s Tipd profile, without asking them to choose from a list.

Why operators choose this

It works well when guides already interact directly with guests and are happy to display or share their own QR code or link.

Mix and match

You do not have to choose one option for your whole business.

Create different Teams for different tours, crews or operating models and configure each one in the way that fits.

For your guides

Your guides set up their account, then Tipd handles the payment

Each guide has their own Tipd account. They complete identity and address verification, connect their bank account and can then be included in the Teams you create.

1

Invite your guides

Send an invitation from Tipd. The guide creates their own account or connects an existing one.

2

Complete verification

As part of account setup, guides verify their identity and address. Additional checks may occasionally be required.

3

Connect their bank account

Each guide connects their own bank account so Tipd can pay them directly. Payouts normally arrive within 2 to 3 working days.

4

Add them to the right Teams

Once set up, guides can be included in the Teams relevant to their tours and can track their own tips and payouts in Tipd.

For the operator

Tips stay separate from your business

Give your guides a convenient way to receive cashless tips, without card readers or collecting, splitting and distributing the money via your business.

For the guide

Guides can see their tips and payouts

Guides can track their own tips and payouts in Tipd with full transparency, without relying on your business to tell them what they received.

For your guests

Simple for the guest, whichever setup you choose

Whichever setup you choose, the guest journey stays simple: open Tipd, choose who to tip if needed, select an amount and pay from their own phone.

1

Open the Tipd tipping page

Guests scan a QR code or open a Tipd link from your guest app, email, message or other tour information. The tipping page opens in their phone’s web browser, so there is no app to download.

2

Choose who to tip

Depending on the Team setup, they can tip the whole team, choose a guide from a list, or land directly on one guide’s profile.

3

Choose an amount and pay

Suggested amounts help guests decide, or they can enter their own amount and pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.

4

Tipd handles the allocation

Tipd follows the Team setup you chose and allocates the payment to the appropriate guide or guides automatically.

Multiple guests can tip at the same time from their own phones

Guests choose the amount privately on their own device

Guests can leave a thank you message and guides can respond through Tipd

Practical questions

Common questions about setting up Tipd

Answers to a few practical questions that come up when planning a Tipd setup.

What happens when our guides change?
If your Team’s membership changes, add or remove guides from the relevant Team in Tipd. If the same members rotate between tours or shifts, they can check in and out of a Sharing Team through the Tipd app, so tips are shared between the people checked in. In both cases, the Team QR code or link can stay the same, so you do not need to reprint materials each time.
Do guides need a new account for every Team?
No. Each guide has one Tipd account. Once set up and verified, the same account can be added to any relevant Teams.
Does our business receive or redistribute the tips?
No. Tipd allocates each payment according to the Team setup and pays the appropriate guide or guides directly to their connected bank accounts. Your business does not need to receive, hold or redistribute the tip.
Can international guests use Tipd?
Yes. Guests can pay using supported debit and credit cards, Apple Pay or Google Pay, including international cards. They can open the Tipd QR code or link on their own phone without needing a card reader.
Do guests need to download the Tipd app?
No. Guests use their own phone to scan a QR code or open a Tipd link. The Tipd tipping page opens in their web browser, so there is no app for the guest to download.
